Our approach

We arrange an initial telephone or video call at a time convenient to you. The purpose of this call is for you to explain what your expectations are from a service, and how we can help.

The onsite meeting helps us better understand the property and is our chance to meet fact to face, we will again discuss expectations and deliverables of the service.

Now that we have all of the information, we will provide a written estimate for our services. This will include the monthly charging mechanism, inclusive services, and indicative costs for ad hoc services.

Once agreed, we will ask you to approve our estimate, and provide you with a copy of our terms.

Once we have agreed terms, we will schedule the first site visit.

Invoicing will vary depending on the project.

For small jobs we may invoice on completion, other large projects will have staged payments often with a sum upfront, mid project and project completion. We will agree these terms with you at project discussions.

Your garden needs a little TLC, and regular maintenance during the year. Of course not all people do work in their gardens all year round but there are real benefits in doing so.

Spring

In spring the garden comes alive again after winter. Spring bulbs such as snowdrops and daffodils will be the first flowering plants to emerge, closely followed by tree blossom and flowering shrubs such as hawthorn. Spring is often the busiest time of year in the garden, with many gardeners preparing to sow seeds of flowering annuals, planning the borders, and getting a head start on mowing and weeding.

Key jobs for Spring include

Lift and divide herbaceous perennials

Plant new herbaceous plants and shrubs

Prune roses

Sow hardy annuals outdoors

Sow half-hardy annuals in a heated propagator and plant them out after all risk of frost has passed

Remove weeds, add compost mulch to borders

Start mowing the lawn

Summer

Summer is when your garden will be in full swing. Plants begin to really take on growth, and flower. During Summer weeds become a real problem, but can be kept under control with a frequent weeding. Summer is time when there is plenty to do, but of course the best time to really enjoy your garden.

Some Summer jobs to think about:

Prune spring-flowering shrubs after flowering

Start feeding, watering and deadheading bedding plants

Feed and deadhead roses after flowering

Sow seeds of perennial plants

Deadhead flowers from herbaceous plants

Mow your lawn regularly, increasing the height of the cutting blade in dry weather

Stake perennials before they flop over

Autumn

Autumn is a busy time pf preparation and clearing in the Garden. During the Autumn months, you will notice plants stop growing as quickly. Some plants, such as Japanese anemones, Verbena bonariensis and rudbeckias, will flower until the first frosts, providing a late season of pollen and nectar for insects. Now is the time where leaves will begin to drop rapidly the falling of leaves, as the garden – and the wildlife that uses it – starts to wind down for winter. It’s also the key time for planting spring bulbs.

Autumn jobs

Plant spring bulbs

Plant late-flowering plants to extend the season of colour

Clear fallen leaves from your lawn and paths, but leave piles in corners of your garden to provide hibernation sites for wildlife

Bring tender plants indoors before the first frosts

Take hardwood cuttings from shrubs and roses

Leave seedheads on plants for birds to eat

Plant deciduous trees, shrubs and climbers

Plant bare-root shrubs, roses and hedging plants

Winter

In winter the garden is completely dormant, of course with our current climate thats a little fluid. Generally nothing is growing and most wildlife is hibernating. The grass should have had its last cut until early Spring, and but there are jobs to do.

Winter jobs

Raise terracotta pots on pot feet to prevent cracking in frost

Clearing leaves

Pressure Washing patios and walkways

Clearing Gutters

Clean your greenhouse

Tidy your shed
